Burgundy Bike Tour

Your guides will greet you at the train station in Dijon for a transfer to our hotel. After an essential bike fitting and safety talk, we will set off on our first scenic spin to Château Commarin, a domaine that has remained in the same family for an impressive 26 generations, dating back to 1214. Enjoy lunch at a typical local auberge before we continue riding through the Burgundian countryside. Pedal alongside the famous Canal de Bourgogne which connects Burgundy to Paris and is one of the most attractive canals in France. Finish on relatively flat terrain all the way to our luxurious accommodation at Abbaye de la Bussière, where we will spend two nights. This evening we’re treated to a meal prepared especially for us by the hotel chef. Bonne dégustation!

After breakfast at the hotel, cycle from the Canal de Bourgogne up to the forest of the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits before descending into the heart of the world’s most renowned vineyards. Our journey along the Route des Grands Crus will showcase the esteemed beginnings of some of history’s most famous wines, taking us through wine villages and estates like Chambolle-Musigny, Échezeaux, Romanée-Conti, and Nuits-Saint-George, the birthplace of Chevaliers du Tastevin—a prestigious society of Burgundy wine connoisseurs. Explore one of the vineyards where Burgundy winemaking began in Clos de Vougeot before stopping in Gevrey-Chambertin to taste robust red wines (famously favored by Napoleon Bonaparte himself), paired with lunch prepared by our winemaking friend, Christine Drouhin. After lunch, ride the rest of the way to the hotel, or opt for a lift back in the van. This evening, visit the charming village of Châteauneuf and dine at the helm a chef who was awarded France’s best artisan of the year.

Start your day with a typical French breakfast before exploring the renowned Grands Crus vineyards. Traverse the initial ascent and then descend along peaceful roads towards the Côte de Nuits. Along the way, pass through Corton-Charlemagne, named after the French king who held a deep affection for the region’s vineyards.​ Burgundy’s beautiful tiled roofs lead the way to Savigny-lès-Beaune where we join Greg, a friend and passionate vigneron, at his home. Here we’ll enjoy a generous tasting of sparkling Crémant de Bourgogne before we ride a few more miles to medieval Beaune for a bistro lunch in the centre-ville. After, visit the Hôtel-Dieu, a charity hospital founded in 1443 and one of the finest examples of 15th-century French architecture. The evening is yours to enjoy one of the many excellent restaurants in town.

Fuel up with a lovely breakfast at the hotel before cycling through the picturesque villages of the French countryside. Pedal through the charming hamlet of Orches and admire the Château de La Rochepot. Once in Nolay, take a quiet bike path to Santenay, the most southern wine-producing village of the Côte de Beaune. Stop and taste Premier Crus in the 15th-century vaulted cellar of a biodynamic wine estate before riding to our lunch spot for a gourmet picnic prepared by the guides. An afternoon spin through iconic wine towns, including Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault, will lead us back to Beaune. Tonight, your guides will stroll with you to the home of our friend, Chef Adeline, for an intimate evening of food and wine.​

After a generous petit dejeuner within the old stone walls of our hotel, we’ll get back on our bikes and head further into the hills of the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune to reach the famous Canal de Bourgogne. The grand finale is a one-mile climb to the perched medieval village of Châteauneuf. Celebrate your success with a fashionably late lunch at our favorite auberge and discover the town’s 15th-century fortress with a panoramic view of the canal and valley below. After lunch, we’ll hop in the van for a 40-minute transfer to our final hotel in Saulieu. Relax with a massage in the hotel’s luxurious spa or venture out to explore the charming town. We celebrate our final evening in Burgundy with an unforgettable Michelin-starred meal at our hotel. Bon appétit!
